I personally don't feel that email is dreadfully impersonal. An email is better than no mail at all. That being said, nothing beats an old fashioned letter sent via snail mail. There is something warm and inviting about getting a letter written on nice stationery in the mail. It just feels nice in your hand.
I also have a tendency to open that mail alot more carefully, because I know there is something nice inside. I know that all of us have written short obligatory notes...thank-you notes. The bread and butter letters after spending a night or more in someones home.
I have a thing for paper. I love nice paper, and I have all the things you need to turn plain envelopes into special lined envelopes. One of my favorite sources is PaperSource. I can spend hours on their website just imagining all the wondrous ways I can use their paper. I like to make personal cards from their paper. I have spent hours making cards to use in the future.
Another one of my favorite lines of paper comes from a company called Mudlark. Their stationery is out of this world. When I don't have time to make a card and I just need to get the thank you in the mail by tomorrow, I use this stationery.
You can go their website and find all the places where you can buy it
